Ever wondered what pricing method is better for selling your items at shows? Do I take the time to tag all the products individually, or can I just put all my pricing on a sign? In this blog I’m going to tell you exactly what method is going to lead to more sales at your market.
I get this question all of the time, “Should I be displaying my prices on a sign or individually tagging each item?” Although both have their pros & cons, one method is definitely my favorite! Lets’ break it down:
SIGNS
pros
They’re Easy!
Signs are the easiest way to display pricing.
They’re Cost Effective!
Buy one sign and you can use it for your pricing for years.
They’re Fast!
It takes five minutes to price your items on a sign, & since you only do it the one time, there is no additional time investments when you sell future items!
cons
People Overlook Them!
Doesn’t matter how big or engaging your sign is, a lot of people overlook the signs. The sign might feel pointless sometimes because you’ll get a lot of questions like this, “how much does this cost?”
People Are Nervous to Ask About Pricing!
If they don’t see your sign, & you don’t have a tag, people might get nervous to ask for your pricing, and just walk away! (It use to happen to me a lot when I used just the sign method)
TAGS
pros
Less Confusing for Your Customers!
Your customer has a better understanding of exactly how much something costs when it’s tagged on the product and they don’t have to scan a pricing sign.
They Are A Marketing Tool!
If you think about it, your tag can be used as a mini business card. If they gift the item the bought to a friend, that friend knows exactly where to find you if they want to order more!
Helps You Stay Organized!
I track my items with sku numbers, & let me tell ya, it’s so much easier when you can add the sku to every tag! Plus, if you offer multiple sizes, tags help keep those organized for both you & your customers
You Look More Professional!
There’s just no getting around this one. Your tags will help you appear more established & professional, leading to more sales!
You Can Add Additional Info!
You can add care instructions, QR codes, a “thank you”, and so much more additional information to your tags!
cons
Takes More Time!
I know the last thing you need as a busy entrepreneur is another task that takes up time! But it really doesn’t take that long, it’s just not as fast as plopping up a sign.
Costs More Money!
Although each individual tag doesn’t cost that much, overtime, you will be spending more money on tags than you would just purchasing one sign.
Final Thoughts…
Why not both?
Okay okay, I know. You probably wanted a clear answer on one or the other, but honestly both signs & tags have a place when it comes to pricing your items. & Personally? I love using both!
Individually pricing items $5 or less isn’t worth the extra investment, so I just throw all of that stuff on a pegboard with a sign!
But for everything else, I’ve found individually pricing everything, although more time consuming, is totally worth it! You’ll end up converting more sales plus help market your business while doing so!
